The Girl Scouts of the USA announced on Tuesday that the S’mores cookie will be retired at the conclusion of 2025. This decision provides cookie enthusiasts with one final year to purchase the beloved treat before it joins the ranks of discontinued flavors.
This marks a notable first for the organization, as they have publicly disclosed the discontinuation of a flavor in advance, according to a spokesperson for NBC. The S’mores cookie will remain available for purchase at cookie booths and online, subject to availability.
It remains uncertain whether this proactive announcement aims to mitigate the resale of cookies on the black market, similar to the situation with the Raspberry Rally cookie, which was discontinued in 2023. That particular cookie, featuring a raspberry-flavored center and chocolate coating, was resold online for prices reaching up to five times its original cost, typically ranging from $4 to $7.
The S’mores cookie, inspired by the classic campfire treat, was introduced in 2017. Additionally, the Girl Scouts will also phase out the Toast-Yay! cookie, which mimics the flavor of small French toast bites. This cookie was launched in 2021 but was not available in Western Washington.
“Girl Scout Cookie season encompasses much more than merely selling the beloved cookies,” stated Wendy Lou, chief revenue officer of GSUSA, in an interview with Today. “The revenue generated by the girls during this season directly supports their development in leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.”
Lou further emphasized, “The success of each sale illustrates the significant impact girls can have on the world when they dedicate themselves to a cause.”
The Girl Scout cookie season commenced on Tuesday morning in various regions of the U.S. (excluding Western Washington for now) and will continue until April. Although no new cookie varieties will be introduced this year, fans can still enjoy classic options such as Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs.
