ALTADENA, Calif. (KTLA) – A wildfire that broke out on Tuesday evening in the Eaton Canyon region near Altadena is prompting evacuations as a severe windstorm continues to impact Southern California.
The Eaton Fire was initially reported at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, and by 12:07 a.m. on Wednesday, it had expanded to over 1,000 acres.
A dangerous, life-threatening windstorm was anticipated to reach its peak intensity on Tuesday night and is expected to persist through Wednesday.
Evacuations are currently in progress for nearby areas, with response efforts being coordinated by the Pasadena Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the U.S. Forest Service.

- Outpost Lane
- Glen Springs
- Coolidge
- Miranda
- Roosevelt

- Kenclare

- Canyon Close

- East of Altadena Drive
- West of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue
- North of Sierra Madre
- East of Allen
- West of Santa Anita Drive
- In Arcadia – North of Orange Grove/Rosemead Boulevard; East of Lake Avenue; West of Michillinda Avenue
Fire officials are advising the public to remain vigilant, comply with evacuation orders, and avoid roadways whenever possible to facilitate access for emergency responders to affected communities.
Additionally, it has been announced that all schools within the Pasadena Unified School District will be closed on Wednesday.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
